The Aspen Institute Communications and Society Program created the Dialogue on Public Libraries in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to help advance the work that public libraries are doing to address community challenges and to support the transformation of public libraries for the digital age.
To help us do this, the Dialogue brought together a select 35-member Working Group, that met twice in the project’s first year to examine the evolving societal role of the public library and to shape and advance a perspective that re-envisions U.S. public libraries for the future.
The report, Rising to the Challenge: Re-Envisioning Public Libraries, is built upon the considerable knowledge, insights and experiences shared by these experts, practitioners and thought leaders.
Our goal is to develop a common vision for the role of public libraries and ignite a national dialogue to help bring this vision to life. The Library Vision web site is the central, digital portal for communication and engagement toward our goal.
