Winter Park Library Dialogue Event
The Aspen Institute Dialogue on Public Libraries, a project of Aspen Institute Communications and Society Program, is embarking on a new series of community and regional dialogues to address the strategic opportunities presented by public libraries and their changing roles in communities and the nation. The Institute will convene the first in this series -- the Winter Park Dialogue on Public Libraries -- in partnership with the Winter Park Public Library on June 8-9, 2016 in Winter Park, Florida.
The impetus for this broad effort is the recent and successful launch of the Institute’s vision report, Rising to the Challenge: Re-Envisioning Public Libraries, which calls on civic leaders, policymakers and library leaders to leverage libraries as platforms for building more knowledgeable, healthy and sustainable communities. Winter Park is one of many communities that are using this report and the companion Action Guide to help inform a process of re-envisioning the public library to meet changing personal and community needs in the 21st century.
The Winter Park Dialogue will be a model for convening conversations in other communities that can serve as a catalyst for strengthening and transforming the role of libraries as critical platforms for learning, community development and innovation. The Winter Park Dialogue will explore and advance the alignment of the public library’s programs, services and resources with the goals, priorities and aspirations of the community. It will also aim to foster the development of deeper partnerships between the public library and other public and private institutions and community organizations in the pursuit of beneficial community outcomes.
